Nickel-Aluminum Silicone EMI Shielding Elastomer
SSP2529
Corrosion-Resistant Conductive Silicone for EMI/RFI Gaskets
SSP2529 is an approximately 68-durometer, nickel-plated aluminum filled conductive silicone elastomer engineered to deliver EMI/RFI shielding along with enhanced galvanic-corrosion resistance. This material is commonly used as a CHO-SEAL® 6502 alternative in marine, salt-fog, and mixed-metal environments where silver-filled EMI gaskets may corrode or degrade over time.
Material Overview
- Base Polymer: Silicone (≈ 68 Shore A)
- Conductive Filler: Nickel-plated aluminum
- Form Availability: Supplied as molded sheets and extruded profiles
- Shielding Performance: 93 dB minimum at 10 GHz; best-case attenuation 135 dB at 80 MHz during third-party testing
- Corrosion Resistance: Demonstrated excellent galvanic stability in salt-fog and mixed-metal environments with negligible flange loss
- Comparable CHO-SEAL® Cross-Reference: CHO-SEAL 6502
- Mechanical Properties: Stable tensile, elongation, and compression characteristics suitable for cut-gasket designs
Why Engineers Choose SSP2529
- Corrosion-Resistant EMI Shielding – Nickel-aluminum filler helps reduce galvanic corrosion in marine, salt-fog, and mixed-metal environments.
- Common CHO-SEAL® 6502 Alternative – A familiar cross-reference for engineers evaluating corrosion-resistant conductive silicone EMI gaskets.
- Proven Shielding Performance – Third-party testing showed 93 dB minimum attenuation at 10 GHz, with higher performance at lower frequencies.
- Designed for Aluminum and Mixed-Metal Housings – A strong choice where silver-filled materials may create galvanic concerns over time.
- Cost-Effective Alternative to Silver-Filled Materials – Provides reliable EMI shielding and corrosion resistance without the cost profile of silver-filled conductive elastomers.
Applications
- Marine and naval electronics exposed to salt air or salt spray
- Outdoor telecom equipment in coastal climates
- Aluminum or mixed-metal housings where galvanic corrosion is a concern
- Industrial control equipment in moisture-prone or chemically exposed areas
- Ground vehicle electronics operating in corrosive or wet environments
- EMI/RFI interfaces requiring durability, long life, and chemical resistance
