When finalizing the design of your custom adhesive-backed gasket, the selection of pressure-sensitive tape requires just as much consideration as the foam or rubber material. To begin the analysis, consider the uses, environment and adhesive chemistries.

Key considerations when choosing gasket adhesive

Common Chemistries Gasket Adhesive

Acrylic

Adheres well to most gasketing materials and surfaces while offering a good operating temperature range (-50°F/-46°C to +350°F/+177°C intermittent)

Silicone

Adheres well to silicone elastomers with fair adherence to other surfaces. Silicone adhesives offer the widest operating temperature range (-80°F/-62°C to +450°F/+232°C), but are also the highest cost.

Rubber

For general use applications, typically lower performance and lower cost. Typical intermittent operating temperature range (+50°F/10°C to +150°F/65°C).
