Sheet Rubber Gaskets
Sheet Rubber materials are used for Gasketing, Cushioning, Sealing, Sound Damping and many other applications. From applications requiring resistance to oil and solvents, abrasion and flex cracking, ozone and sunlight, heat, water, and steam, to products that require excellent tear strength, vibration damping, temperature specifications, and compression set.
Sheet Rubber Gaskets – Features and Benefits
Weather Resistance –
Resistance against weathering, ozone, and UV ray exposure.Chemical Resistance –
Resistance solvents, chemicals, acids and alkali’s.Abrasion Resistance –
Good abrasion resistance, impact and tensile strength.Heat Resistance –
Certain sheet rubber materials can handles up to 500ºF.Oil Resistance –
Excellent oil & gas resistance, and hydraulic fluids.Variety –
Sheet rubber is available in a variety of formulations, thicknesses, and durometers.Sheet Rubber Gasket Materials Commonly Converted At SRP
Neoprene
Neoprene rubber is a black colored rubber that is used in applications where moderate levels of oil, petroleum, ozone, and weathering-resistance are needed. Neoprene elastomers are very popular due to the broad range of applications in which they can be used.Silicone
Silicone rubber has a broad working temperature range that allows it to handle high and low extremes. Silicone products also exhibit good levels of weather and chemical resistance, making them ideal for a host of outdoor and industrial uses.Nitrile (Buna-N)
Nitrile, also known as Buna-N rubber or butadiene rubber, has a superior level of resistance against synthetic and natural grease products. It is highly recommended for use in areas where oil/petroleum products are present.EPDM
EPDM sheet rubber is highly recommended as a type of outdoor rubber for applications where there is significant environmental exposure. Their common feature though is that they are generally very good at resisting the degrading effects of weathering, ozone, and UV ray exposure.Natural Gum Rubber
Natural gum rubber is a popular non marking rubber material thanks to its soft, supple nature and excellent flexibility. Natural gum rubber is also an eco-friendly elastomer thanks to its tree-derived raw materials.SBR
SBR is a copolymer of styrene and butadiene and has properties similar to Natural Rubber. It has good abrasion resistance, excellent impact strength, very good resilience and a high tensile strength. The temperature range of SBR is -40˚F to +180˚F.Choosing the right Sheet Rubber material for your Custom Gasket
When choosing a commercial grade rubber sheet, there are a few factors to consider, such as:
- Type of application: Will it be exposed to high temperatures? High humidity? Chemicals? Oil?
- Level of abrasion resistance: Do you need a rubber that can withstand high levels of wear and tear?
- Level of resilience: Do you need a rubber that can withstand high compression levels?
- Material Thickness: How thick does the rubber need to be? Are you filling a gap?
- Adhesion: Does your gasket need to be adhesive backed for stick in place?
