Polyurethane Foam
PORON® 4701-50 (Firm)
Overview
PORON® 4701-50 is a firm, microcellular polyurethane foam engineered for high-energy impact management. It’s designed for gasketing and sealing applications where durability and excellent compression set resistance are critical. This material maintains its shock-absorbing and sealing performance even under fluctuating temperatures.
Features
- Firm and durable — ideal for high-impact, high-energy applications.
- Available thicknesses range from 0.012″ to 0.500″ (0.30 mm to 12.7 mm).
- Density options include 15, 20, and 30 lb/ft³ (240, 320, and 480 kg/m³).
- Compression force deflection at 25%: ~10, 17, or 39 psi depending on density (69, 117, or 207 kPa).
- Excellent compression set resistance (~10% max at 70 °C).
- Thermal performance: continuous use up to 90 °C (194 °F), intermittent up to 121 °C (250 °F); embrittles at –40 °C.
- Robust mechanical properties: tensile strength (100% elongation), Shore O hardness (~18–55), tear resistance, and stability.
Benefits
- Manages shock and vibration effectively with reliable energy absorption.
- Retains sealing integrity over repeated compression cycles and high-temperature use.
- Supports precise fabrication with consistent thickness and cell structure.
