High Quality Precision Die Cutting

It’s always difficult trying to explain to a customer, friend or innocent bystander exactly what it is we do here at Standard Rubber Products Co. (SRP). For over 65 years we have been providing custom fabricated products to a variety of industries working with small to large companies. In our world, we are considered a fabricator” or “converter” of non-metallic materials. What this means is we take raw materials such as sponge, foam and rubber and convert or cut them into custom shapes that fit the application they will ultimately be put into. This is where precision die cutting comes into play.

In order to maintain quality and accuracy, manufacturers like SRP use precision die cutting techniques to cut individual parts and components out of these raw materials. These services can be performed in a number of ways to produce products according to exact customer specifications. We can custom fabricate and shape a variety of materials quickly and accurately including: sponge, foam, rubber, foam tape, thermal tape, adhesive, plastic, vinyl, film and much more.

Methods of Precision Die Cutting

A number of different precision die and die less cutting procedures are available in our manufacturing process. The design, material type, and quantities of the customer product will determine how the parts will be manufactured. At SRP, we offer a variety of different methods depending on those customer needs. Our precision die cutting methods include:

  • Steel rule die cutting
  • Flash cutting
  • Rotary die cutting
  • Laser cutting
  • Compound die cutting
  • Water jet cutting

Steel rule die cutting, along with compound die cutting, are century old cutting techniques that are still used today and continue to be revised and revamped as technology continues to change the manufacturing landscape. SRP still utilizes these processes today due to their high output and quality manufacturing capabilities.

Die less cutting has become the ‘new age’ manufacturing in the converting world. By utilizing CAD software, our customers are able to send us computer files with their parts drawn, and those files are seamlessly uploaded into our database. Major benefits to die less cutting include rapid prototyping and ease of design changes. With this technology, there is no need to buy expensive tooling.

Our dedicated teams of engineers are ready to assist you with your next project and provide you with the expertise and quality materials for parts and components that meet your exact specifications.

Thermal gaskets: A guide to their benefits, functions and materials

A thermal gasket serves an important and specific purpose across many industries — particularly in applications where managing heat is critical to product performance and longevity. Though often overlooked, these gaskets play a vital role in ensuring the reliable operation of devices we use every day.

Why thermal gaskets matter

A thermal gasket is a compressible material that’s designed to contain and withstand heat, not transfer it — protecting sensitive components from overheating.

That heat shield makes thermal gaskets essential in a wide range of applications, including electronics, EV battery systems, power supplies, lighting systems and consumer appliances. By protecting sensitive components against heat damage, your product remains safe and operational.

Key functions of a thermal gasket: Heat insulation & sealing

High temperature gaskets are designed to withstand operating temperatures of 350 degrees Fahrenheit and above. They can be used to join and connect materials, while protecting through insulation and flame resistance.

Their ability to seal against environmental ingress makes them especially useful in compact, battery-powered electronic designs, where limited space increases the risk of thermal buildup. In these cases, thermal gaskets can be multi-functional — making them a high-impact solution in a small footprint.

Choosing the right thermal gasket material for your application

Thermal gaskets are designed to serve as a compressible, thermally resistant seal to protect components against heat intrusion. While gaskets are traditionally associated with sealing out contaminants, these can be made from materials that offer excellent resistance to flame and heat.

Standards and compliance: Select materials that are rated for UL 94 and ASTM E162, which tests flame spread for materials exposed to heat and flame.

Operating temperatures: Select gasket materials that are designed to resist continuous temperatures of 200 F and above.

Explore BISCO silicone products that offer excellent thermal resistance and are available in a wide range of softness and firmness to meet your specific gasketing needs.

Selecting the right pressure sensitive adhesives for your thermal gasket

Pressure-sensitive adhesives (PSAs) are often used to attach and secure thermal gaskets in place. They’re often made with materials that support gasket performance while also simplifying assembly.

Acrylic PSA

  • Benefits: Offers strong, durable adhesion with excellent chemical resistance and ease of die-cutting — making it ideal for sealing applications that require reliable bonding of thermal gaskets to metal or plastic surfaces.
  • Considerations: While more affordable than silicone PSA, acrylic adhesives typically perform best in mid-range temperature environments (up to ~350°F).
  • Use cases: Securing die-cut gaskets within power supplies, control panels, lighting enclosures and consumer electronics.

Silicone PSA

  • Benefits: Provides excellent adhesion and stability at high temperatures (up to ~500°F), along with superior resistance to moisture and chemicals. It also offers compatibility with silicone-based foams.
  • Considerations: Generally lower peel strength than acrylic PSAs, but ideal for high-temperature or silicone substrate applications.
  • Use cases: Attaching silicone foam gaskets in EV battery packs, industrial enclosures and outdoor-rated electronics.

Keep in mind that compatibility matters when matching adhesives to your substrate. For example, silicone foams require silicone adhesives.

Next steps: Custom die-cut thermal gaskets

Once you’ve selected the best material for your thermal gaskets, bring precision and speed to your assembly process with custom die-cut thermal gaskets

We begin by laminating your chosen thermal interface material with a compatible pressure-sensitive adhesive. Then, we die-cut the composite to your exact specifications using either traditional dies or dieless digital methods.

Because they’re cut to fit tight spaces, you’ll reduce errors and raise consistency in your electronic assemblies. Simply peel the adhesive backing, place, press — you’re done!

One Decade Later

We’re Expanding East

When the idea of opening a manufacturing facility on the other side of the world was presented to us, we were a bit unsure of the risks involved. It was a different country, culture, currency, language, and a different way of doing business. Not to mention the 15-hour flight, with a 13-hour time difference. From the time we decided China would be a good fit for SRP, until the day the doors opened was a little over a year. During that year we would come to find solutions to the hardships in which we feared from the beginning. SRP’s owners and managers were determined to make the best of this second location by hiring an Asian business consultant to help us navigate through the complexity of licensing a company in China. We decided against becoming a joint venture, and instead became an LLC. From there we landed on a location in Zhuhai, China.

Why Did We Go?

The company made the move to provide local support to one of our larger customers who was expanding their manufacturing base in Asia, and wanted localized manufacturing for shorter lead times and rapid engineering support.

Choosing Our Location

We scouted various locations from Beijing and Tianjin to Shanghai and Suzhou to the South Pearl River Delta near Hong Kong and Shenzhen. Our decision was to settle in the city of Zhuhai, located in the South Pearl River Delta because of proximity to the customer, and ease of transporting goods either by air, land, or sea.

10 Years Later

Next month marks the 10th Anniversary of the opening of our China facility. Since 2006, we have been able to build a successful manufacturing company through the development of trust through our customers, continuing support using U.S. managers, development of strong relationships with our key suppliers, and a business model that has changed to primarily supporting U.S. companies that have a presence in Asia.

In celebration of our 10th Anniversary, the President/CEO of our company, along with the Executive Director of SRP Zhuhai, will be visiting to celebrate a decade of successful business with the entire staff. The relationship, trust and support that we have built with our employees is the key driver to our success. Our business in Asia continues to grow every year, and we are proud of where we stand today.
